The Role Of Aptitude Tests

Aptitude testing is an increasingly common way for employers to evaluate potential candidates before they are recruited. Such assessments help recruiters assess the skill of candidates in the following areas:

  • Numerical Reasoning Tests (Maths); Verbal Reasoning Tests (English Language);
  • Non-Verbal Reasoning Tests (Problem Solving);
  • Abstract Reasoning (Ability to interpret patterns);
  • Spatial Reasoning (Rotating 2 and 3-dimensional shapes);
  • Mechanical Comprehension (Commonly used in engineering and mechanical roles).

What Are Aptitude Tests?

Aptitude tests help employers assess whether you have the right skills for a job. For example, an administrative assistant role may require a verbal reasoning test to check your spelling, grammar,and reading comprehension. Many tests are now online, but some employers still use in-person assessment centers. These tests are often used early to filter candidates before interviews.
